PostSubject: Bach Flower Essences   Tue Nov 10, 2009 12:36 am

The Bach flower remedies are named after their originator Dr Edward Bach. He was a medical doctor, immunologist and bacteriologist who developed a successful practice in Harley St London at the beginning of the 20th Century. He became disillusioned with the allopathic medicine of that day and felt that it was becoming counter productive to the body's natural ability to heal itself.

He became interested in homeopathy for a while but eventually felt that remedies should only come from nature, plants, sunlight and pure water. He gave up his lucrative practice and moved to Wales where he spent the rest of his life developing a range of gentle plant based remedies.

Over the years Dr Bach came to the conclusion that behind all illnesses was an inner imbalance, an emotional or psychological state that affected the individuals health. He also felt that the vital properties of a plant were transferred into the dew that would form on the plant in the early morning and that this essence could be captured by floating the plant on pure spring water and leaving it for a while in the sunlight. These preparations are then preserved using a little brandy, creating in effect a diluted tincture.

Flower remedies are therefore prescribed to treat negative emotional states of mind or moods, whatever the physical complaint. These remedies are safe and gentle and may be taken singly or in combination (such as the rescue remedy which is great for shock or nerves) and can be purchased from stores such as Boots, Holland and Barratt or from many online sources.

Flower remedies can work wonders, but you need to be totally honest with yourself (or your practitioner) about how you are feeling and which state of mind is affecting you the most pressingly at the time.

I will post some more details in the future about each individual essence and its healing properties.
